Three AHS FFA members received duck decoys from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. FFA Students from across Arkansas have an opportunity to receive free decoys by sharing their experience with duck hunting and why they would like to receive the decoys. Wyatt Daniel, Amelia Price, and Cypress Blakeney (not pictured) were three students from across the state who were selected. They received about 12 decoys apiece. Duck season starts this weekend and they plan to put them to use. Congrats!

This semester, Mrs. Barras' AP US History students researched individual American colonies, creating brochures to persuade potential settlers to move there by highlighting each colony’s crops, trades, and industries. Afterward, they participated in a collaborative learning activity, sharing their findings and comparing the colonies based on daily life and economic factors. Through this exercise, students considered the practicalities of living in each colony, reflecting on how factors like gender, occupation, and resources influenced settlement decisions, with thought-provoking questions such as, "If you were a single woman, which colony would you choose to live in and why?"

AHS FBLA attended the 2024 FBLA District IV Leadership Conference in Hope on Wednesday. The AHS Chapter registered the largest group for the event with 63 members and 4 adults. New members and officers were installed from each school. The students were also treated to a concert with Sofie and the New Relics. The 2024-2025 FBLA theme is “Dare to Dream-Dare to Lead.” Ashley Wesley and Kristin Cloninger serve as the high school FBLA Advisers. They are planning for a great year ahead!

Why are cells so small, and why do organisms consist of so many? These fundamental questions were the focus of a lab experiment in Mrs. Edwards' AP Biology class. To investigate cellular efficiency, students prepared beet cubes in three sizes—small, medium, and large—and immersed them in a bleach solution for approximately 30 minutes. The cubes were dissected to assess the extent of red pigment remaining. This experiment effectively illustrates the principle that smaller cells exhibit greater efficiency in material exchange across their membranes, highlighting a key aspect of cellular function. Great job students!

We want to say thank you to the Arkansas State Police-Troop K, Arkadelphia Police Department, and the Army National Guard for their time and efforts in providing our students with an invaluable experience. Students had the opportunity to learn about the consequences of substance abuse and impaired decision-making. They participated in field sobriety tests while wearing "drunk goggles," allowing them to experience firsthand the negative effects of functioning under the influence. This interactive and engaging session was part of our ongoing commitment to making sure students are aware of the choices they make and how those choices can impact their future.

A group of AHS Students were able to participate in a tour of Sexton Law Firm this week. The Law Firm extended an invitation for students to visit their office. They were able to see the facility and learn about jobs and careers available in the law field. It was a great opportunity as students plan for life after high school. They were accompanied by Career Education Teacher Kristin Cloninger. We appreciate Sexton Law Firm for opening their doors for students to visit.
