Band

Mr. Larry Brown brings 34 years of teaching experience to his new position as the Head Band Director for Arkadelphia Public Schools. He is a Texas native and has spent his entire career in Texas public schools. His experience includes teaching both middle school and high school bands at 3C, 4A, 5A & 6A classifications. Mr. Brown’s students have achieved recognition for excellence in the areas of marching, concert, sight-reading, jazz band, medium ensemble, color guard, winter guard and drumline at the region, state and national levels. Mr. Brown maintains a busy schedule as a judge, clinician and consultant for other bands, and has been invited to present clinics at the prestigious TMEA Clinic/Convention in San Antonio on three occasions. Mr. Brown is a trombone player and recently performed at the opening ceremonies for the 2023 TBA Convention as part of a 76-member trombone choir to commemorate the organization’s 76th anniversary. Mr. Brown earned his Bachelor’s degree from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas and did graduate work at East Texas State University.

Mr. Brown and his wife, Denise, have been married for 38 years. Denise is an Arkansas native and will be working as a Licensed Professional Nurse at a women’s clinic in Benton.  The couple met in their college band at McNeese State University where Mr. Brown was playing in the trombone section and Mrs. Brown was a member of the color guard. They have two grown children that were both band kids. Their son, Will, was an All-State percussionist in high school and is now a professional chef. Will and his wife, Jessica, have one son, Ollie. Ollie is looking forward to spending time in Arkansas with his Nana and Pop Pop.  Mr. and Mrs. Brown’s daughter, Melodie, played oboe and performed in color guard in high school and is a proud graduate of the University of Oklahoma, where she earned her degree in oboe performance. She now resides in Austin where she continues to perform in a community band and is currently planning her wedding.

The Browns recently built a vacation home in the small town of Rison, Arkansas and enjoy spending time camping, hunting and fishing. In addition, Mr. Brown is and avid golfer and likes to collect sports cards, memorabilia, and vinyl records. The Browns look forward to being part of the Arkadelphia Band family and community and working to continue the amazing tradition of excellence that the Arkadelphia Band is known for.
