Kathy Crow has spent 34 years in the Arkadelphia School District as a classroom teacher. Kathy loved those years in the classroom. She was the 2021-22 Peake Elementary School Teacher of the Year. Now, she moves into a new role for the district in the 2022-23 School Year as an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Interventionist. Her primary role is to students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
Mrs. Crow is excited to begin her new position. She says she has always felt a connection with English as a Second Language (ESL) Students placed in her classroom. Kathy grew up in Texas around her mother’s family who spoke fluent Spanish and English. She personally experienced what it took to develop communication skills and build relationships living in a bilingual environment.
Her focus as an ESOL Interventionist is to support students and help them to develop confidence in speaking/listening and reading/writing. She plans to provide teachers with support and resources to assist students that may be having challenges in the classroom in regard to language. Mrs. Crow looks to be an advocate for ESL Students in the district. She wants students to be comfortable in the educational setting.
Mrs. Crow knows the impact the Arkadelphia community can continue to have on students and their families. She believes when people within the community are welcoming and accepting of cultural differences, genuine relationships are formed. These positive relationships can impact a child's life and help them become more involved in the community and with activities outside the classroom.
Kathy’s personal and professional experiences have led her into a new calling in education and in our district. We are excited for our students and their families. Thank you Mrs. Crow for stepping into this position. She will spend half of the school day at Perritt Primary School and the other half of the day at Peake Elementary School.
